President: Alexis Cushman

My name is Alexis Cushman and I am a Senior at Bridgewater State University. My major is Biology, and I have a minor in Biochemistry. My interests in science include Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics, Cell and Molecular biology, while my interests outside of science include spending time on my farm, spending time with my family and friends, playing piano/singing, and yoga. I am currently doing undergraduate research with Dr. Seggio, looking at the effect of changes in photoperiod on weight gain and overall physiology. Our lab focuses on physiological studies through comparative research using mice. This is my third year in Dr. Seggio’s lab, though my prior research experience includes research done at Massachusetts General Hospital and a special research experience at Norfolk County Agricultural High School. My goal after BSU is to either go to a physician’s assistant program or nurse practitioner program. I love talking about research and helping people find opportunities in the field, so please contact me if you need any help finding a niche in science!

Vice President: Catherine Cameron

Hello!

My name is Catherine Cameron and I am a junior here at BSU. I am majoring in general biology, and I have two minors, one in chemistry and another in biochemistry. I did an internship with NECWA in the summer of 2015. During my free time, I enjoy online shopping, hanging out with friends, napping, and catching up on my favorite shows Game of Thrones and American Horror Story. After I graduate, I plan on either applying to graduate school or working full time in a lab for research. My interests in science are molecular and cellular levels. If I was to work full time in a research, I would want to do research on viruses and bacteria that affect the human body with hopes of learning and understanding more of the effects of each. I currently work part time at Dunkin Donuts.

Secretary/Historian: Rosanna Bello

My name is Rosanna Bello and I am a junior. My major is Biology and I am minoring in Biochemistry and Chemistry. My interests in science include pathology, diseases, anatomy and physiology, and much more! My interests outside of school are hanging out with friends, listening to music, chilling with my dog, looking at memes, and going on random adventures. My goal after BSU is to go to medical school and become an infectious disease specialist and hope to be able to be part of Doctors Without Borders to help underdeveloped countries receive the medical resources that they need and help change the lives of people. I am not sure which medical school I would like to attend but hopefully, I find the perfect school for me. If I am not able to be part of Doctors Without Borders, I would love to help in pediatrics and bring awareness to women's health to communities that need it.

Treasurer: Mariah Fossella

I am a senior majoring in biology and chemistry. My interests are in chronobiology, population genetics, green biology/chemistry, and biochemicals/weapons. I am currently doing research with Plethodon cinereus looking at how climate change and land use in the last 40 years have changed distribution and color morph frequency under my amazing mentor Dr. Fisher-Reid. In the past I have done molecular work looking at the genes involved in populations as well as a larger project on the genetic lineages of BSU students and faculty by extracting mitochondrial DNA. After graduation would like to go to graduate school to get my PhD and then do work with either chronobiology and the different wavelengths of light or bioweapons and create preventative protocols to exposure. Undergraduate research has shown me how to apply what I've learned in courses to real world issues. It has also shown me how much more my degree can offer me once I graduate. The biology club has offered me a great experience in outreach and furthered my education with our journal clubs and discussion topics.

The Biology Club involves a group of people who love to talk about Biology and would like to become more involved with their field of study as well as participate in fun events and community service projects.
